Blah blah blah, 7th in an ongoing series of posts on NYC food.
Sala Thai Restaurant
1718 2nd Ave New York, NY 10128 (212) 410-5557 http://salathaidc.com(not the correct site)
When I found this restaurant via the google maps I quickly looked at all the reviews it had gotten. It seems that Sala started out awesome went and went downhill recently and then began to right itself. My experience reenforces this idea. While the food was pretty great the service as pretty bad. They seemed to have four people on waitstaff, one being the hostess who was hopefully on the phone taking orders and not just gabbing away to her friends. The other three waiters seemed to run about aimlessly. When we did get our order taking they were nice enough they just seemed to have to much on their minds to give really good service.
As I said before the food itself was quite good. I had the chile pork which was very spicy fried pork in a sweet sauce with greens. The chicken disk I ordered was also very good, with a Thai coconut curry sauce. The rice portions were small but they gave us more for no extra charge.
I rate this as very tasty but it is not for you if you are in a hurry or a real stickler for good service.
