The sixth in a series of post on restaurants in NYC.
Bummer no breky today. Could not find a place in time before class.
I made up for this at lunch.
Sophie’s Restaurant
75 New St New York, NY 10004 (212) 809-7755 http://sophiescuban.com
Lets just start off by saying that Sopie’s is delicious. You get way more food than you can eat and it is all delicious. My lizard brain almost made me devoir the whole plate and lick it clean but I had my un-fat pants on so the high order brain functions won out. I had one of the Tuesday specials, Beef stew with rice and beans. The stew consisted of 3 large chunks or slow cooked beef in a sauce of tomatoes, corn, green beans and spices. You could tell that the meat had cooked in a braise ahead of time and not in the stew itself. The meat was tender and easily cut but firm enough to hold itself together. This happens when after the meat is braised it is allowed to cool, overnight maybe, and then added back a sauce/stew. The cooling lets the gelatin in the meat firm up and hold meat together. Yummy yummy chunks of meat. Oh, the beans and rice were good too.
I rate this a very good, very filling lunch enough for 2 mortal people for less $15 .
Next meal dinner!
