NYC Food Post 5

Part of my 19 part series documenting all my meal in NYV during my visit.

Ooki Sushi

1575 3rd Ave New York, NY 10128(212) 828-3388

I know I had Japanese food for lunch but I hate eating alone and I felt that sitting at the sushi bar would let me sit and talk with the sushi chef and the other patrons. Unfortunately, I was the first sushi bar patron of the night. This did not stop me though, as I was promptly greeted by all manor of helpful and attractive waitstaff. The while aji was recommended as was the king mackerel. Both were awesome. The aji was a while fish, about 13 inches long. I was filleted and prepared as both nigiri and shashimi with a citrus ponzu sauce. The fish was mild but with a slightly stringer fish flavor than the much more mild yellowtail or salmon. Oh, I also had baby yellowtail and salmon nigiri sushi, also freakin tasty. Finally I had what was called a BBQ squid. It was a whole squid about 12 inches and fat. The tentacles where slightly dry and quite tough, the body/rings where almost perfectly done, and the very light not very sweet terriyaki sauce was a nice touch.

About the images. This was by far the prettiest meal so far and yet I gave no images at all. I was tired of lugging my camera all over town and even though it was only 1 1/2 blocks to Ooki I did not bring it as I thought the cell phone camera would suffice. Well, it did not. My battery died just as I tried to document the awesome sight of the aji. :(

I would rate this as a very good meal. The prices where not cheap but if you factor in the great  service, quality, and atmosphere, it becomes quite reasonable.

Next meal: Breky!
