NYC Food Post 4

Part four in a series of posts about each of the food places I eat at this week while I am in NYC for training. There is the potential for 19 food posts!

Kokura Japanese Restaurant

19 S William St New York, NY 10004 (212) 482-8888

I was in the mood for some soup for lunch so I decided on udon at a place a few feet from the building where I have class. I had the tempura udon (cell phone pic coming soon despite remembering to take the picture after I had already eaten half my meal).

When I first walked in I was worried, it was noon in the business district and I imagined that most restaurants in this part of town do 80-100% of their business for lunch, Kokura was empty I was the only patron. I suppose it was not difficult as I was the only person there, regardless, I received very good service, including a nice hot towel for my hands.

The udon and tempura came out wicked hot. The tempura was tasty and included shrimp, sweet potato, and broccoli. The soup had udon noodles, of course, spinach, napa cabbage, onions, and mushrooms. The broth was fine, not too salty, but a little thin on flavor.

I rate this as a utilitarian meal a little on the expensive side for what you get.

Next meal: Dinner!
